So we got to see the #1 ranked prospect in MLB get called up in the AL this past week (Profar), but what about the NL youth that is in waiting? How long until we get to see some of these young studs come up? Or, how long until some of these old veterans slow down, come down or break down? Don’t panic or jump the gun or do anything silly as all we can do is hold our breath and wait… but of course there are still those proven studs who are doing what they do and posting great numbers week in and week out. And with a new spot, now Fridays instead of Sundays, as usual - let’s get it!

When Great Hitters Get Hot
Coming Up Clutch

Paul Goldschmidt - USA Today Sports Images

Paul Goldschmidt: Perhaps the hottest of the hot hitters over the last 14 days, Goldschmidt has scored 11 runs, hit 7 homers, and driven in 14. His triple slash: .426/.460/.979. Over the course of his short career, Paul has been known to crush lefties and struggle somewhat against righties. This season, he has reversed that trend, and has been tuning up RH too. However, his approach vs. RH hasn’t changed. He still Ks over 26% of his at bats against righties, and walks about 10%. At those rates, his current .349 average against RH appears unsustainable. His .443 BABIP vs. RH reinforces this conclusion. Look for Paul’s production against righties to suffer, as the numbers correct going forward. I expect he will continue to mash lefties, so I don’t see him losing significant at bats going forward.

Miguel Cabrera, Detroit Tigers:

Cabrera has smashed the stuffing out of the ball the past few weeks and tallied three home runs on Sunday, May 19 against the Texas Rangers. The third baseman is coming off of a season where he won the Triple Crown, the first since 1967.

This week’s matchup features two southpaws who broke into the league in 2011. While Milone’s career path has always been a starter, Santiago has only recently been converted to a starter.  Perhaps it’s unfair to match up these two together, but its Victoria Day here in Canada so why the hell not! Let’s take a look at these two pitchers.
