After winning the AL Cy Young in 2013, Max Scherzer (SP, DET) posted a stellar 18-5 record with a 3.15 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP in 220 1/3 innings pitched. The 30-year-old righty posted a 252:63 K:BB ratio along with a complete game and a shutout in the process for the Tigers. Last March, Scherzer and his agent, the infamous Scott Boras, turned down the latest Tigers' contract extension offer to the tune of $144 million over six years ($24 million annually).
Already shelling out big dollars to Justin Verlander, one can see why the Detroit's GM Dave Dombrowski is careful about Scherzer's contract extension talks.
